HTC To Release Its Squeezable ‘U’ Phone In May

Apr 21, 2017 04:46 PM EDT

The company sent out save-the-date flyers for May 16, 2017. The invitation and HTC's tweet, bearing the tagline "Squeeze for the Brilliant U" is causing a lot of curiosity. In the video posted by HTC, a hand is shown to be squeezing the frame of a phone.

The video clearly hints at the fact that one might be able to interact with the device by giving the frame a squeeze. According to Engadget, this hint is consistent with the reports about HTC's new phone codenamed "Ocean".

This new release reportedly has the feature "Edge Sense". This feature uses sensors embedded in the frame of the handset. This lets users trigger various actions in the device by squeezing or swiping the sides of the phone.

As per 9to5 Google, information on the specifications of HTC's U Phone is still cloudy. However, reports say that it is going to be a 5.5-inch handset. The device will house a 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM with a Snapdragon 835 chipset. The internal storage will be either of 64 GB or 128 GB depending on the model, with a battery of 3000 mAh.

The HTC U Phone will feature a 12 MP primary camera and a 16 MP secondary snapper. The other highlights would include Sense 9 based on Android Nougat 7.1, no 3.5 mm headphone jack. It will also boast of IP57 dust/water resistance. The pixel display on the model is 2560 x 1440. The build of the device will apparently have a shiny glass and metal design, resembling that of the HTC U Ultra, only smaller in size.

Despite all the exciting features as stated above, the spotlight is on the Edge Sense technology. The world will have a clearer view when HTC goes live from Taiwan on May 16, 2 AM Eastern. Meanwhile, for more updates on HTC U stay tuned with Droid Report.
