Samsung Electronics and Apple Inc. might be leading the pack in the smartphone industry for the longest time, but that doesn't stop its challengers to come up with a feature so groundbreaking it may very well be giving them a run for their money. The latest competitor to grace such expectation is HTC's upcoming flagship iteration — HTC U Ocean.

Also dubbed as HTC U, HTC U Ocean is heavily speculated to be equipped with the game-changing "Edge Sensors". According to Android Headlines, the feature will allow its users to squeeze the device on its edges in which the system will be able to recognize which type of task it should be performing. Moreover, these sensors will be dependent on how long a user could squeeze these edges.

Mashable has also reported that squeezing the forthcoming HTC U Ocean will allow the device to perform tasks such as launching the camera or even call upon the Google Assistant functionality. Apparently to improve the device's one-handed use, the "Edge Sensors" may also allow the users to toggle settings like Wi-Fi or activating the unit's hotspot feature.

The same publication also indicated that HTC U Ocean will employ a mechanism in which an accidental triggering can be prevented. These "Edge Sensors" are equipped with a system that can detect three sensitivity levels of squeeze.

HTC U Ocean is expected to come with top notch features and specifications. These include a 5.5-inch Quad HD display and an ultra fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. Meanwhile, a fingerprint sensor should also be part of the phone's beefed-up security. It's also rumored to be equipped with varying storage tiers — 4GB RAM/64GB internal storage and 6GB RAM/128GB native storage. The next flagship should run the latest Android Nougat and be powered by a reliable 3,000mAh battery with a Quick Charge 3.0.

HTC U Ocean's release date isn't confirmed yet but it is expected to be unveiled in 2017. HTC's upcoming flagship device is deemed by most as it's "comeback" iteration.
