AMD Ryzen 5 Price, Release, News: CPUs to Unveil on April 11 With the Price Range of Less Than $250

After taking the world by storm with its latest high-end Ryzen 7 CPUs, AMD is all set to return to form with four more mid-range models under the Ryzen 5 brand. The company had previously said a Q2 2017 target for the launch of Ryzen 5, and there is now a specific date for it, which is April 11.

There are four new AMD Ryzen 5 CPUs, two out of which will be having a six physical cores and two of which will be having four. All of them will sport the support for simultaneous multithreading, that allows each core to run two threads.

The fastest of the four is the new 6-core/12-thread Ryzen 5 1600X that will have a base clock of 3.6GHz and a boost target of 4GHz, just lie to the Ryzen 7 1800X but with fewer cores. It is priced at $249 and will go head to head with Intel's Core i5-7600K. The Ryzen 5 1600 will be running at 3.2GHz with boost target of 3.6GHz, and also has six cores for twelve effective thread, which is priced at $219, according to NDTV.

The Ryzen 5 1500X and Ryzen 5 1400 both are quad-core/8-thread CPUs from AMD Ryzen family. The faster of the two runs at 3.5-3.7GHz while the lowest-end model runs at 3.2-3.4GHz speed. The prices are $189 and $169 respectively. AMD might release more models over the time to refresh this lineup, as reported by PC World.

All of the four upcoming Ryzen 5 chips will be priced at less than $250, the same price range that Intel is currently offering for its own Core i5 chips at. However, the number of cores and threads that the Ryzen 5 offers pushes into Intel's Core i7 territory, potentially offering much more value for the price.

Based on the AMD's latest Zen architecture, the processors are targeted at enthusiasts, gamers, and high-performance applications. This launch of AMD Ryzen 5 follows on the heels of the company's recently-announced higher-end Ryzen 7 processors, as per DNA.

While talking about the cooling part, the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X will be shipping without a cooler, just like the Ryzen 7 1800X and 1700X. However, the Ryzen 5 1600 and 1500X will be shipped with the same Wraith Spire cooler that the 65W Ryzen 7 1700 does. The Ryzen 5 1400 is the only model which will have the smaller Wraith Stealth cooler.
