Android 7.1.2 Nougat News & Update: Google to Roll Out Public Update of Android 7.1.2 on April 3

Google had already released the Android 7.1.2 Nougat beta version to some of Nexus and Pixel phones. While releasing the version, Google also said that it is an incremental update and is mostly focusing on bug fixes and performance improvements along with carrier-bound enhancements.

Now, after the six weeks of rolling out Android 7.1.2 beta version, Google is reportedly going to come up with the public release of Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The company is expected to start the roll out of public update from end of this month or at the beginning of April, according to WccFtech. The timeline is a follow-up of what Vice President of Android, Dave Burke noted in a blog post in January, that the public release of Android 7.1.2 would take "a couple of months."

The new report from Android Central has come in action after Canada's Rogers announced an update for its Pixel units, which are bringing VoLTE support along with the latest March security updates. Canadian carrier, Rogers had been testing the VoLTE feature for a couple of months for Pixel with Android 7.1.2 beta, and now it seems that the carrier is informing its users about a Pixel update on April 3.

However, Rogers' announcement does not confirm Google's plan to initiate the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update around the same. But it looks like the tech giant is most likely roll out the update at the beginning of next month, around the time when it releases security bulletins, OTA images, and factory images. Although it is an incremental update, but for Pixel users on Rogers, it will be bringing the much-needed VoLTE support that will enable voice-calling.

Unfortunately, there's some bad news too. Google has confirmed Neowin that the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will not receive this update; however, both Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will continue to receive security updates. For the ones who don't have a Nexus or Pixel smartphone, you have to be patient as Google might take more time to extend the update to all smartphones. Possibly, the company may also take more time to cover all the supported devices as users had been reporting the lack of updates for their Nexus devices.
