Samsung Rolls Out KNOX 2.0

While the Galaxy S5 was no doubt Samsung’s biggest roll out at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, it was far from the only announcement by the company as to what we can expect in 2014. On Tuesday, Samsung said it had entered into a deal with Good Technology to provided added security for KNOX 2.0.

Folks may recall that Samsung launched the first iteration of KNOX at last year’s MWC.

“Good is the first partner afforded a secure domain on KNOX-enabled devices, and we believe this integration will greatly accelerate Android adoption for our enterprise customers,” said Injong Rhee, senior vice president of KNOX business, IT & mobile communications division at Samsung Electronics in a press statement. “We are excited to be able to offer customers a solution that combines KNOX hardware- and OS-level security with the Good secure container and app ecosystem.”  

While Samsung’s KNOX system provides Android and device-level security, Good’s “secure container” technology will provide security at the app-level. Between the biometric fingerprint scanner now available on the Galaxy S5 and the partnership with Good Technology, Samsung hopes it can bolster the ubiquity of its products in enterprise settings.

“This is a huge win for Samsung and Good customers. Because Good’s apps and container security layer have a unique place in the KNOX stack, Good customers can now benefit from KNOX’s hardware- and OS- level security,” said Christy Wyatt, president and CEO, Good Technology. “Samsung customers can uniquely enable the Good secure container as the mobile app security and management stack on KNOX devices and leverage the entire Good ecosystem of business productivity apps.”

Samsung says it will roll out “Good Secure Domain” on the KNOX platform sometime in the second half of 2014. The company is currently showcasing the integration between the two systems at its booth in Hall 3 at MWC.
