Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0+ Launched With Three New Upgrade Over Quick Charge 4.0

Jun 02, 2017 01:17 PM EDT

Qualcomm launched new Quick Charge 4+ charging protocol, which promises improvements over Quick Charge 4.0 that was announced back last year in November. Qualcomm also confirmed that the first device which will feature Quick Charge 4+ was announced by Nubia.

Qualcomm has been constantly getting better its Quick Charge technology for smartphones and claims that the latest version brings three major improvements over the previous Quick Charge 4.0. Chipset maker has confirmed that the all-new Quick Charge 4+ includes all the features of Quick Charge 4, and also adds three new enhancements, as reported by NDTV.

Latest Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ is having Dual Charge, which is a feature already available in previous versions, with some upgrades as it will include a second power management IC in the device. This feature is expected to manage lower thermal dissipation and reduction in charging time.

The second feature is Intelligent Thermal Balancing that has been developed to get rid of hot spots for optimized power delivery. Finally, the Quick Charge 4+ brings improvements to the already existing built-in safety protocols. Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ has been intended to monitor both the case and connector temperature levels simultaneously. This means that the new Quick Charge version can help against overheating and short-circuit or damage to the Type-C connector.

According to Android Police, apart from these features, the new Quick Charge 4+ has the capability to charge up to 15 percent faster or up to 30 percent more efficiently as compared to Quick Charge 4. Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ chargers, USB hubs, and battery banks will have backward compatibility with QC 3.0 and 2.0.

According to Qualcomm, the first smartphone to feature new Quick Charge 4.0+ technology is the Nubia Z17 that was unveiled earlier this week. The handset is coming with a 3,200 mAh battery, a Snapdragon 835 processor, as well as 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.
