"Sonic Mania," the revival of the 2D side-scrolling Sonic platform games way back from the '90s was set to be release this coming Aug. 15, 2017. The game was set to be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch as publisher Sega confirmed recently.

According to Crunchy Roll, "Sonic Mania" was originally scheduled to launch in the spring. However, Sega announced in March that it had delayed the platformer to this year's summer.

Developed by Pagoda West Games and HeadCannon, "Sonic Mania" is a side-scrolling platformer that aims to innovate upon the gameplay styles seen in classic Sega Genesis titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3. All of this will be enhanced through enhanced gameplay sounds, retro-inspired visuals, and more that bring the colorful world of Sonic to life like never before.

"Sonic Mania" aims to re-invent and pay homage to titles from the Sega Mega Drive era. As of now, players can control three different characters such as Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic. Each of them came with their own unique skills and abilities including climbing obstacles, super speed, and flying into the air to reach new areas, as noted by Game Spot. All of these newest features will come in handy during context-specific obstacles environments that may even house a few secrets for us to uncover.

"Sonic Mania" pre-orders for digital versions will cost $19.99 which is now live on Steam and the Xbox Games Store. As for the game's Collector's Edition, it will be available only in North America for only $69.99; also available for pre-order at various retailers while supplies last.

Meanwhile, "Sonic Mania" will let players experience navigating the usual array of locales that are expected from the series. Futuristic cityscapes, dilapidated ruins, and luscious green hills are all set to make an appearance. Sega has claimed that many zones will be direct remasters of classic stages.
