AMD earlier announced that it is bringing its Ryzen processors to laptops in late 2017. A few days later, Asus introduced the first ever Ryzen laptop at Computex in Taiwan: the Radeon RX 500-series-equipped Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC.

According to PC World, the Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC is the first gaming laptop to be equipped with an AMD Ryzen CPU. It comes in 3 variants which include AMD's 8-core Ryzen 7 1700, a 6-core Ryzen 5 1600, and a quad-core Ryzen 3 1200, making the device not only the first laptop to be equipped with a Ryzen series CPU, but also allowing the notebook to directly compete against desktop platforms.

The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC, in addition to the Ryzen CPU, is also equipped with the AMD's Radeon RX 580. It incidentally marks the first time that the graphics card would be utilized in mobile devices. While tech pundits expect the RX 580 mobile version to perform at a rate that is slightly slower than its desktop-bound counterpart, these experts are suggesting that the GPU would still perform well in a mobile setting.

According to the Republic of Gamers, the Taiwan-based company claims that the Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC is "practically a desktop under the hood." While overclocking is not possible on this device, the Ryzen CPU on board the gaming laptop would still be able to execute two threads in parallel, creating 16 logical processors to boost its computing power.

The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC is also equipped with AMD's FreeSync technology which is paired with the gaming laptop's IPS display. The Ryzen CPU-equipped notebook computer has 32GB of DDR4-2400 memory, a 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD, a mechanical or solid-state storage drive, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1 The next generation laptop is also equipped with an SD card reader, three USB Type-A ports, and a USB-C port.

AMD's partnership with Asus is just the tip of the iceberg. With an impressive Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC finally revealed, it's looking like the future is bright for AMD and its Ryzen CPU series.
