SwellPro Launches Waterproof Splash Drone 3 On Kickstarter To Raise $51,000 Over 30 Days

May 26, 2017 05:52 PM EDT

It is drone launch week. After DJI launched on Wednesday its Spark Drone in New York City, SwellPro, the developers of Splash Drone 3, launched the waterproof drone on Kickstarter. The aim is to raise $51,000 over the next 30 days. Pledges begin at $1,149 for early bird backers, while shipping begins in August 2017.

Geeky Gadgets reports that Splash Drone 3 features a 4K Ultra HD camera and a modular payload release system. After all the early bird orders of the drone are gone, the developer would have a retail price of $1,399. The camera features a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor which also captures 14 megapixel still photos.

The 5G glass lens of the Splash Drone 3 has a 106-degree field of view that offers a distortion-free, vibrant and high-resolution images. The 4K camera gimbal comes with a built-in audio and video recorder and high-torque brushless motors that provide smooth video in the air and under water.

Splash Drone 3 has a fisherman edition with a Payload Release System capable of dropping up to 2.5 pounds of bait. The upcoming drone has a Dual mode GPS that uses up to 24 satellites and Glonass for better accuracy, making flying the drone in AUTO safe and easy.

Alex Rodriguez, CEO and founder of Urban Drones, the seller of the new drone, says that the flight controller of Splash Drone 3 has redundant hardware which makes it safer in the air. The drone’s software detects the point where a failure occurs in any part of the system. The system would either automatically return to its take-off position or changes to its internal backup, Digital Trends reports.

The Verge reports that the Splash Drone 3 is an updated edition of the original Splash Drone the company released in 2015 with better specs. Pilots have a choice from two models, the AUTO and Fisherman. SwellPro, even if it crowdfunded the project, is an existing company with a long history of selling drones.
