May 23, 2017 06:18 PM EDT

A fresh image of Samsung's smartphone has been leaked online. The image can be seen with a Samsung logo on the top bezel with no sensors and front camera. Therefore, it is assumed that this device could be the new dual-screen flip smartphone from the South Korean tech giant which was earlier surfaced bearing the model number SM-G9298.

According to Android Headlines, the Samsung smartphone carrying the model number SM-G9298 was recently certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) and the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This smartphone could be the dual-screen flip handset from the company.

It is reported that this device could be marketed as the Galaxy X smartphone, which was previously indicated by Samsung as an alternative Android flagship. The device in the image is a black color handset with a curved screen and a relatively empty top bezel with Samsung's branding

It is reported that the Samsung smartphone SM-G9298 could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 system-on-chip (SoC) and support wireless charging. Based on Wi-Fi Alliance certification, the smartphone will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. It is also reported that this device could become the first Samsung smartphone carrying SD 821 chipset.

According to Gizbot, the smartphone leaked in the image being presumed to be the successor of previous year's SM-W2017 flip phone. However, the device does not have a model number SM-W2018. The report also suggests that the device could be the successor of the SM-G9198. This was a flip phone launched by Samsung in 2015.

Based on the previous reports, Samsung is said to manufacture around 2,000 to 3,000 Galaxy X prototypes prior to finalizing the design of a dual screen flip smartphone. It is expected that this particular smartphone could be launched in either late 2017 or early 2018. However, it shall be noted that the image leaked could be one of the prototypes, which the company might be planning to design for perfect aesthetics.

Samsung has not given any official statement on the leaked image of the dual-screen flip smartphone. Therefore, readers are requested to take all the details with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more updates.
