Apple is planning to announce an update to its MacBook lineup at WWDC in early June. This move could help offset new competition from Microsoft as well as help in bringing back the declined iPad sales.
According to the latest report from Bloomberg, Apple is planning to refresh its MacBook lineup completely and announce three new devices this time around. Apple is planning three new laptops. The MacBook Pro will get a faster Kaby Lake processor from Intel, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss internal planning.
Apple is also currently building a new version of the 12-inch MacBook with a faster Intel chip. The tech giant has also considered updating the aging 13-inch MacBook Air with new processor since sales of the laptop remain surprisingly strong. Apart from faster processors, there won't be many incremental changes to the devices, as reported by NDTV.
Apple is expected to keep hold of the design of the MacBook, making changes only in the hardware department. Apple is reportedly working on a new chip for MacBook Pro that will help the device function effectively even in the low power mode. However, it is unclear if the chip will power the latest generation MacBook Pro model or Apple will reserve it for a future date.
Apple had previously promised upgrades to Mac Pro and iMac also but there has been no news of the same. It remains unclear on Apple will announce a refreshed desktop line too at WWDC.
The tagline for this year's WWDC is "Technology alone is not enough. Technology must intersect with the liberal arts and the humanities to create new ideas and experiences that push society forward. Apple MacBook Air and MacBook are certainly due for an update since 2015 and 2016, respectively. Apple WWDC 2017 event will take place from June 5 to June 9.
