The Nintendo Switch seems portable and small as it is but some folks are still looking for more improvements that can be made. The latest game console is already reconfigurable and technically light but the dock could use some modifications to make it more travel-friendly.
The beauty of the Nintendo Switch is that it can be easily hooked onto TV sets at any time. The dock becomes a problem, a bit bulky add-on though some have tried to come up with their own takes with crazy ideas on the design. But as most know, reconstructing a dock is easier said than done.
Rebuilding the Nintendo Switch dock would require reconfiguring the specs. Much of those are detailed at the Nintendo site where some key features such as the USB-C connector, the HDMI in TV mode, audio output and speakers would need to be repositioned to get a lighter dock to carry on the go.
A lot of crazy designs popped up at Tech Crunch, sensible but obviously fabricated. The Nintendo Switch dock design ideas come from avid gamers who may be studying the game console features as a whole, sticking to the important ones which are mostly connectivity and the screen display (6.2-inch multi-touch capacitive display.
Hence, coming up with a travel-friendly Nintendo Switch dock is all about trying to bring down the .66 lbs weight. The controllers are about .88 lbs, additional weight when they are attached to the dock. Taken as a whole, there could be components that could be taken out for a miniature version – most likely connectivity options that are not widely used by gamers.
It will be interesting if Nintendo gives in to the request of gamers, potentially a Nintendo Switch dock mini. It will require a lot of retooling so the Japanese gaming company may as well come out with an entirely travel-friendly console rather than a special dock which could bring up different compatibility issues.
