MacOs Dock Autohide Animation Feature: How To Maximize Screen Use And Interface Of Apps

May 14, 2017 06:57 PM EDT

One distinguishing feature for MacOS is the ability of users to turn to full-screen mode but auto-hiding the Dock. There are apps that have not integrated such a feature but here are courses of action to turn to and avoid display issues that could distort the display.

The need to control the auto-hide behavior of the Dock will be required at times, especially if there are apps in use that do not accommodate the feature. A good example is Adobe’s Creative Cloud Suite which has yet to adopt full-screen mode, 9 to 5 Mac reported.

In such cases, there is a way to auto-hide the behavior of the dock. All a user would have to do is right-click on the Dock separator and select “Turn Hiding On.” Aside from that, a user can either adjust the auto-hide behavior via the system preferences or through shortcut keys (⌥)+Command (⌘)+D keyboard.

Along with the auto-hide behavior of the dock comes the animation which could cause screen display issues. For those who want a smoother screen, you can turn that off too. All one has to do is go to the Terminal, go to Finder and navigate to the applications and then utilities. Simply paste : “Macbook-Pro:~ jeff$ defaults write.com.apple.dock autohide-timer-modifier –int 0; killall Dock.”

Though a bit technical, this input will technically set the Dock to autohide time to 0 and doing away the animation for folks who don’t want it. The changes are made as soon as the command is used. For those worried about future issues that this command will do, it can be easily reverted back when one presses the default settings according to idownload blog.

It may not matter much for macOS users and cases will vary and depend on the applications and user preferences. For those who want a step-by-step guide to remove the Dock auto-hide animation, the video below should walk you through it.
