Qualcomm has now declared that the latest iteration of quick-charge technology, the Quick Charge 4.0 would be made available to the market by the middle of 2017. The Snapdragon 835, latest flagship chipset by the company supports the Quick Charge 4.0.
Qualcomm's recent release, the Snapdragon 835 is a powerful processor and the first to come with Quick Charge 4.0. A number of smartphones running on the Snapdragon 835 have been or are to be released in the market. However, no sign of the Quick Charge 4.0 is found in them.
Though the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus were the first smartphones to have the Snapdragon 835, they were not even equipped with Quick Charge 3, let alone the Quick Charge 4.0. Other Snapdragon 835 smartphones that support but do not come with Quick Charge 4.0 are Sony Xperia XZ Premium and the Xiaomi Mi 6.
According to PCWorld, one can expect Quick Charge 4.0 smartphones to hit the market in mid-2017. This superfast battery charging technology is expected to be 20% faster than its predecessor.
Qualcomm claims that the Quick Charge 4.0 feature can charge a smartphone to 50% in no more than 15 minutes. This means that the device gains five hours of talk time in five minutes of charging.
All the above claims have been made in reference to charging a Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 smartphone with a 2750 mAh battery. However, since most of the new releases in smartphones have a battery capacity of more than 3000 mAh, hence these claims must be verified.
The Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 works with the USB Type-C that delivers more power over cables. As mentioned in Gadgets Post, the Quick Charge 4 is an internal feature; Qualcomm has also made software tweaks in the smartphones to optimize their charging potential.
Qualcomm has not revealed any names of its partners for the release of Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0-compatible smartphones. However, guessing by the manufacturers of smartphones with Snapdragon 835, one can expect Quick Charge 4.0-enabled smartphones from the likes of LG, HTC, and Samsung in the second half of 2017.
