iPhone 8 News & Rumors: Apple Might Place The TouchID On The Back Of The iPhone 8

May 10, 2017 02:55 AM EDT

The upcoming iPhone 8 might have an OLED display and wireless charging. The phone is also not removing the TouchID entirely, and according to a trusted Apple revelations firm CLSA, there is a high chance that the TouchID will be at the back of the phone.

CLSA analysts Sebastian Hou and Brian Chen said that although both Samsung and Apple tried to do away with the fingerprint sensor, both were unable to use 3D sensor technology at this point in time because the tech is still too immature. Brian Chen also mentioned that using an under-screen fingerprint sensor would have bottlenecked the iPhone 8.

According to the iPhone 8 design leaks by BGR, the phone would be having a fingerprint sensor along the middle part of the phone, and the module would be at the back, slightly below the Apple logo. The iPhone 8's primary competitor Samsung Galaxy S8 saw placing of the fingerprint scanner at a highly criticized place, right beside the camera module, where it would be difficult to reach for people with shorter hands.

Also, thanks to CLSA's understanding of the design leaks, the iPhone 8 would most probably get a 3D sensing and iris recognition setup. The phone might also get two powerful bottom firing speakers. iPhone 8 news suggests that the phone would be 144mm tall and have a width of 7.9mm, making it one of the slimmest phones on the market. It would, however, be a tad thicker than the iPhone 5S.

iPhone 8 news suggests that manufacturing challenges and problems with getting OLED screens have set back the iPhone 8's arrival by two months, and it would be revealed at the same time along with upcoming iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus. Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has implied that the iPhone 8 is facing shortages and it is more severe than earlier thought.

As of now, there are no further details about the launch and features of the upcoming iPhone 8. If Apple can get over the problems associated with R&D and manufacture of the device, they may take back the market from the hands of the Galaxy S8.
