Microsoft Surface Laptop vs. Apple MacBook Air: A Real Specs Battle

Microsoft finally unveiled the real competitor to the Apple's MacBook Air. The Redmond based-tech giant launched its new Surface laptop with incredible specifications and features. The company has finally pushed the real laptop, which is not a tablet with a keyboard or a laptop with a detachable display.

A direct specs comparison is made below between the latest device-Microsoft Surface laptop and the ruler-Apple MacBook Air.

Display: According to Microsoft, the Surface laptop sports a 13.5-inch Pixel Sense display with a resolution of 2,256 pixels by 1,504 pixels having a pixel density of 201ppi. On the other hand, the Apple MacBook Air sports a 13.3-inch LED display with 1,440 pixels by 900 pixels having a pixel density of 127.68ppi.

Dimensions and Weight: The Microsoft Surface laptop has a measurement of 308.1 mm x 223.27 mm x 14.48 mm, and weighs 1.252 kilograms. Whereas, the Apple MacBook Air measurement of 325mm x 227mm x 17 mm and weighs 1.35 Kilograms.

Processor, RAM, Storage: The Microsoft Surface laptop features an Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor coupled with either 4GB or 8GB or 16GB of RAM and an Intel HD Graphics 620 or Iris Plus Graphics 640. The laptop comes with either 128GB or 256GB or 512GB of storage. According to Apple, the MacBook Air features, only an Intel Core i5 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and Intel HD graphics 6000. The device comes with either 128GB or 256GB of storage.

Other features: The Microsoft Surface laptop runs on Windows 10 S and it is claimed that it is faster than the regular Windows 10 operating system. The laptop comes with touch screen, Pen support, Windows Hello face sign-in camera, 720p HD front camera, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE,  a USB 3.0 port, Mini DisplayPort, headphone jack and Surface Connect port.

On the other hand, the Apple MacBook Air runs on MacOS Sierra and comes with Magsafe charger, 720p HD FaceTime camera, multitouch trackpad,  802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, two USB 3.0 ports, a Thunderbolt 2, an SD card reader, and a headphone jack.

Price: The Microsoft Surface laptop has different price tag depending on the variant chosen. The four different price tags are $999,$1,299, $1,599 and $2,199. On the other hand, the Apple MacBook Air comes only in two variants having price tags of $999 and $1,199. It shall be noted that the pricing of these two devices may vary depending on the region it is being sold.
