Xiaomi had released the MIUI 8.2 update back in February and since then it had started working on the next update, MIUI 9. As reports suggest, the tech biggie had recently sent out mails to the developers accidentally. It talked about bringing two new features, the PIP (picture in picture) and the split screen. All new Xiaomi models with Android Nougat 7.0 would get all the latest features, including MIUI 9, Mi 6, Mi 5c and Redmi Note 4.

Earlier Xiaomi had announced that it would introduce Xiaomi MIUI 9 in the second half of the year. Even though the buyers are yet to find out all the details about the expected features, the leaked images gave some hints to it. According to GSMArena, the split screen feature allows the users to use two apps at the same time. Interestingly, in April, a poll was conducted on Xiaomi forum. Almost 80% of the users requested for a split screen, even for smartphones running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The Pictue in Picture is the next big feature that users might get in Xiaomi MIUI 9. However, the feature already exists in Android O Developer Preview. This feature was first introduced through Nougat update that rolled out for Android TV. Now, Android O would bring the same thing to smartphones as well as tablets. The PIP offers multi display support as well as overlay while launching activities on remote display, BGR reported.

Along with these, the Xiaomi MIUI 9 users might also expect a screen recorder in the device. It is believed to help the user take screenshots, record other activities easily that the smartphone might be used for. As per Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun said earlier, the MIUI would be smoother, stable and come with a powerful design. Till now, MIUI 9 isn't based on any Android, however, the roll out for Android O might happen soon before its release.
