Twitter Launches TV App Featuring Live Video To Roku

May 05, 2017 07:54 PM EDT

The newest member of the Twitter TV app is Roku. In fact, the US based owners of Roku TV as well as Roku streaming boxes now have access to Twitter's Roku channel. The owners can have the access through the company's channel store. After that the users can turn on to live streams from Twitter.

Interestingly, the new app doesn't require any sign in and allow users to watch live video as well as browse Twitter. Now, this concept is quite similar to Twitter's app on Apple TV, Xbox One and Fire TV, that has launched over the last few months, Variety reported. The Roku launch is a big step for Twitter's TV app since Roku presently has over 14 million users both in case of live streaming as well as for TV.

Roku claimed that the latest app would offer the same live streaming videos that are live on Twitter. These include the original programs and live telecast of sports, entertainment, politics and news. Just like the other available versions, users would also be able to see the tweets while watching live streaming.

Both Roku and Twitter had worked on the app together. It is similar to the other app on different platforms, however it doesn't support Periscope. Twitter had also announced several new deals as video contents. It would include a good mix of live shows, live news reporting as well as user videos posted on Twitter.

According to TechCrunch, the Roku Twitter app would also allow the users to choose and pick which streams to watch. As per Roku users can select any live videos that are running, even if they aren't streaming at that point of time. "The Twitter channel on the Roku platform brings together the video and related conversation that surrounds live events to the largest screen in the house," claimed Ryan Troy, product manager at Twitter.

Troy further added, "Our new channel gives Roku's audience an easy way to watch live events and see what people are talking about, keeping them connected to what's happening." The latest Roku app would be available as a free download from the Roku Channel Store. Users also don't need a twitter account to access it. The app would be available on all Roku devices, including TV.
