Microsoft Surface Pro 5 did not make an appearance at the recent Microsoft hardware event. The company did not even tease anything about its upcoming 2-in-1 hybrid device. However, based on what has been revealed Surface series patrons can get few clues about Microsoft's roadmap.
Microsoft has released a new Surface laptop at its hardware event and it looks to give more hints at what the Surface Pro 5 will look like. The lightweight 2-in1 hybrid could be much better than the iPad Pro 2.
With the recent announcement of Surface Laptop, Microsoft is trying to tell the world that its Surface laptops take on Chromebook Pixel devices. Latest laptop launched by Microsoft aims at the education sector, which means, the budget laptop will benefit for students and teachers. The Surface laptops are also aiming at Apple fans since the Cupertino giant reportedly gears up for 10.5-inch iPad launch this year - aiming at the same segment of people.
If the hybrid Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will materialize this year, it will rival the larger iPad Pro 2. Based on the Surface laptop, the $999 device features 13.5-inch PixelSense display and Surface Pen for its screen. According to Panos Panay, the clamshell laptop is comparatively faster than the MacBook Pro (Core i7), with longer battery life than MacBook Air, as reported by The Verge.
Another theory that Surface Pro 5 is not far is coming from the Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who has admitted in the first quarter of 2017 sales of Surface devices fell short of expectations, which is the primary reasons being the end of the product lifecycle and increased price competition, according to CNBC. He has hinted that Microsoft now needs to introduce the successor to the much-loved Surface Pro 4.
For the release date, the current speculations suggest that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be released in fall. Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 10 Cloud on May 2 during an event and possibly new hardware which runs the new Windows 10 variant and if that actually happens, Redmond will effectively be facilitating new competitors of its Surface Pro.
