AMD Radeon RX Vega & Naples Releasing This Quarter, AMD Announced

May 03, 2017 05:56 PM EDT

AMD made it clear that both Vega graphics architecture and Naples will be released within this quarter. The confirmation came during a recent shareholders earnings call, where AMD also reported strong revenue for the first quarter of 2017 though it wasn't enough to turn a profit.

AMD confirming Vega and Naples will arrive at the market this quarter appeared first on Digital Trends. AMD will be releasing their Naples server CPUs along with the long-awaited Vega graphics processors.

AMD may well make a real renaissance in 2017 if it can achieve similar success to its Ryzen CPUs with its new Naples and Vega chips. Unfortunately, it has been several years since AMD has turned a profit. The company has faced some rigid competition in the high-end CPU market and, as a result, has fallen on hard times.

That being said, things do appear to be looking up. While they did not turn a profit this quarter, the company's revenue did increase by 18 percent as compared to last year. Moreover, the beginning of the year generally isn't a great time for tech companies even when they do release new products such as AMD's Zen processors.

As Anand Tech noted, that's doubly impressive considering the first quarter is rarely a strong retail period for tech companies, even if they do launch their new products. And of course, AMD did just that, with its Zen processors doing quite well.

AMD has only gotten fans more excited for Vega GPU. AMD's next-generation Vega will challenge some of Nvidia's top-tier offerings. AMD has also said in the earning call that the Vega line will launch by the end of this quarter which means it will be available by the end of June at the latest.

In addition to the AMD Vega, Company will be released Naples server CPUs which will be based on the consumer-oriented Zen processors. The AMD Vega is certainly more exciting from a consumer standpoint, but the Naples chips are actually more important to company's success. Both AMD Vega and Naples chips will be hit the market sometime this quarter only.
