Microsoft, the Redmond-based tech giant unveiled its new Surface laptop running on Windows 10S. Microsoft's VP Panos Panay took to the stage at the Microsoft for Education event in New York in order to unveil the new 13.5-inch PixelSense display laptop at just $999.
According to Indian Express, the new Surface Laptop is claimed to be taking the Apple MacBooks and Google Chromebooks in the Education Sector in the United States. It is reported that the laptop is thinner and lighter than the present MacBook in the market, and is faster than the current MacBook Air.
It is also reported that the Surface laptop runs on Windows 10 S and the company claims that it is faster than the regular Windows 10, but can run the apps available in the Windows Store. In order to run apps other than the ones available in store, then there is a need to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and the company is reported to give users the option. The report stresses that the Windows 10 Pro upgrade is only until December 31, 2017, and also the laptop comes with one year of Office 365 Personal free.
According to The Verge, the Microsoft Surface laptop features a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with 3.4 million pixels and an aspect ratio of 3:2. The VP of Microsoft claims that it is the thinnest LCD touch model ever created for the laptop, which also includes the Surface Pen.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop is powered by the Intel Core i5 processor paired with 128GB SSD storage and 4GB RAM along with Intel HD Graphics 620. This is reported of having a price tag of $999. The other variant is powered by Intel Core i5 paired with 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM along with Intel HD Graphics 620 and has a price tag of $1299. The former variant will arrive in Platinum color, while the other variant will come in four color options such as the Burgundy, Platinum, Cobalt Blue, and Graphite Gold.
It is reported that the company has integrated vapor chambers into the aluminum finish on the rear to avoid heating. The device cannot be found with the speaker grilles or holes, as the company has integrated the speakers underneath the keyboard for better aesthetic appeal and as well as better audibility.
The device is featured with a powerful battery along with the Intel processor, which boosts the battery life claimed to be higher than the MacBook Air lasting for 14.5 hours. It is reported to be faster than the i7 MacBook Pro laptop available in the market.
The Microsoft Surface laptop has measures 308.1 mm x 223.27 mm x 14.48 mm, and weighs 1.252 grams. It features a USB 3.0 port, Surface Connect port, headset jack, Mini DisplayPort, and is compatible with Surface Dial and the Surface Dock as well. The laptop comes with Windows Hello face sign-in camera, 720p HD camera (front-facing), stereo microphones, 802.11ac Wi-Fi wireless networking; IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compatible and it also supports Bluetooth 4.0 LE. The laptops are currently available for pre-orders in the United Sates and shipping will start from June 15, 2017.
