The China-based regulatory agency TENAA has recently posted some images that might belong to the ZTE Axon 7S. The images come with a bit of information attached, and it shows a ZTE phone.
The ZTE Axon 7 was widely well-received when it was launched last year in May, wherein Android Authority even dubbed it as one of the best phones in the world. This year, ZTE has revealed the Axon 7S that comes with upgraded hardware.
However, as reported by GSMArena, the new phone is not the ZTE Axon 7S. The images reveal a familiar design like the Axon 7. The images also reveal a fingerprint scanner under the camera module. The camera module itself is a dual camera setup. The phone also will come with a 5.5-inch 2560x1440 resolution screen.
TENAA lists the phone as ZTE A2018. Compared to this model number, the ZTE Axon 7's codename was A2017. Although the Axon 7S was said to be coming with 6GB of RAM, the listed A2018 model has 4GB of RAM. The codenamed A2018 would also have a smaller battery capacity compared to the Axon 7S, down to 3,320 mAh for the new phone.
Lastly, the A2018 lists its processor to be a quad-core chip clocked at 2.15Ghz and might use the SnapDragon 6 series as SoC. The ZTE Axon 7S in comparison has a SnapDragon 821 Soc with an ARM-based Octa-core processor.
Since ZTE has submitted the phone for approval by TENAA, it would get an official announcement in the coming months, along with a price quote and a full spec sheet. If speculations ring true, this phone would be a mid-range smartphone targeting Asian markets other than China. This only increases the expectations one might have for the new ZTE A2018 and the ZTE Axon 7S.
