Apple has started seeding macOS Sierra 10.12.5 to developers, another fast update considering the Cupertino company has just released macOS Sierra 10.12.4. The previous update introduced “Night Shift” for Mac users so it will be interesting what the latest beta will have to offer.
The best place to see what changes macOS Sierra 10.12.5 brings is through the patch notes as before. Unfortunately, it doesn’t say much other than bringing stability, compatibility and improved security for Macs. Though a bit broad, it should be worth noting that Apple does not usually divulge everything so there could be more features coming out once the final version is ready to roll out, Mac Rumors reported.
Developers and public beta testers who want to check out for themselves can download the macOS Sierra 10.12.5 via the Apple Developer Center or via the Software Update in the Mac App Store. The fifth beta could hint at the final version coming out soon, probably in the form of macOS Sierra 10.13 at WWDC 2017 on June 5.
Aside from “Night Shift,” already revealed via the previous macOS Sierra 10.12.4 were the new PDFKit APIs and iCloud Analytics, Apple Insider reported. Internet Recovery options were also expanded though it came with a USB audio controller chip bug. It continues to be a problem for Mac users so though it will be interesting if a patch for it was included on macOS Sierra 10.12.5.
For those who missed what “Night Shift” mode was all about, this is a feature that can be activated via the Display section under your machine’s System Preferences. As the name connotes, it is more of a feature to aid the Mac in telling when sunset and sunrise are available. It seems to be a power-related feature that could save on energy consumption. The feature can be turned on and off manually via the Notifications Center or with the assistance of Siri.
