AMD Radeon RX Vega Specs Update: Leaked 3DMark TimeSpy Score Hints AMD VEGA Performance, Will Compete GTX 1070

There has been a lot of buzz going on regarding the upcoming AMD Vega. The newest micro-architecture, AMD Vega, is said to go head to head with NVIDIA's Polaris architecture. While many AMD patrons are still waiting for the highly anticipated graphics cards to be released, an alleged 3DMark benchmark for the AMD Vega has recently surfaced online.

AMD's long-expected Vega may turn out to be pretty capable, even if not as powerful as Nvidia's top-tier offerings. A new leak of 3Dmark results which seem to come from an AMD Vega card, suggests that it could be roughly as powerful as a GTX 1070.

There is a score uploaded to Futuremark's database for its 3DMark Time Spy benchmark which is listed as using a "Generic VGA" graphics card paired with an AMD Ryzen 7 1800X processor. The setup in benchmark has achieved an overall score of 5,950 that is based on a graphics score of 5,721 and a CPU score of 7.699.

That listed card at the benchmark has the Vega device ID (687F: clockspeedC1), which is what tipped off Guru3D to its true identity. The listed card's score is comparable to the GTX 1070 test results Guru3D achieved in its own internal testing.

AMD Vega is a single graphics card setup with 8GB of memory, 1,20clock speed, and 700MHz memory bus clock. That has led to speculation that it's a nothing but a Vega card.

If the card is indeed an AMD Vega graphics processor (GPU), it's not at all necessarily the world beater some expected. However, it comes with 8GB HBM2 memory and a clock speed of just 1,200MHz that suggests there could be a lot more headroom. It could be that this isn't a top-of-the-line Vega graphics card and AMD could have something else for the top end too, according to Digital Trends.

Graphics drivers can have a huge impact on performance, so as time goes on and AMD is able to optimize things a bit better, we can expect even better scores from whatever AMD Vega card this happens to be. Right now it is too soon to tell if these figures are representative of the actual product release for the graphics cards.

AMD has been known lately to under promise and over-deliver on its range of products. Fans are hoping that AMD will be able to present the AMD Vega as a viable candidate for a high-end graphics card.
