Basketballer Shaquille O’Neal has finished voice work for the upcoming video game “Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn.” The game from Saber Interactive would release in seven game consoles. These are PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and the Nintendo Switch.
In 1994, “Shaq-Fu” was released by Saber Interactive. In 2014, an Indiegogo campaign was launched to make a sequel to the classic game. The 1,339 backers raised $458,000 in the fundraising campaign. In 2015, a trailer of “Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn” was shown at The Game Awards, Siliconera reported.
Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive, said that when “Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn” was featured on Indigogo, enough money was raised for a Wii U version. But the gaming website says it is not clear if the Nintendo Switch version would replace the Wii U version or there would be two versions.
Besides the launch of “Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn” on Nintendo Switch, Karch reveals more Saber Interactive and Big Deez Productions games would come out on the new console. “NBA Playgrounds would roll out on May 9. There would be a new motocross title and a new four-player co-op perfect for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wire reported.
GameRant explains that “Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn” is a remake of “Shaq-Fu,” a 2D fighting game released for the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo in 1994. It is considered the weirdest licensed video game of all time. Shaquille O’Neal says the original game was “laughably bad,” but the upcoming game would be a more robust experience when it would launch.
Saber Interactive and Big Deez Productions describe “Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn” as “Streets of Rage” meets “Street Fighter” meets “Devil May Cry.” Given the combination of three games, players could expect a side-scrolling beat them up game with co-op and destructive environments as well as custom movie sets and adaptive artificial intelligence.
