Apr 30, 2017 09:41 AM EDT

There are four specified Dell XPS 15 available and three 15-inch MacBook Pros. Both the flagship products are well designed from premium materials, featuring high-end internal components. While Apple has tried aluminum unibody design, Dell has chosen Aluminum lid, carbon fiber coated wrist rest and metal based keyboard tray. Both the products are exceptionally well constructed here.

According to PC World, the new MacBook Pros Apple's keyboard is less travel-friendly because of Butterfly key switches that are not for everyone. The touchpad is much enormous than XPS 15, but the latter is more responsiveness. So in terms of usefulness, XPS offers much better touchpad. Dell also packs 32 Gb RAM into its top-end model, that can make 4K video editing much promising.

In terms of processors, there are very few differences between the two devices. The least powerful MacBook Pro gets a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with a maximum Turbo Boost speed of 3.4GHz. This is only slightly slower than the fastest Dell XPS 15, which utilizes Intel's latest 7th-generation Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 chips - depending on the model. The difference is small but important. Intel's 7th-generation "Kaby Lake" processors are the successors to the 6th-generation "Sky lake" models. Essentially, the newer chips are a little faster and a little more power efficient.

In the graphics department, the MacBook Pro 15 incorporates AMD's Radeon Pro graphics brand, with a choice of three chips on board. The Dell XPS 15, has s a 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M in all models. Though the Radeon Pro is aimed towards 3D work and other creative applications but it will also have the capacity to play some games. On the other hand, the known 960M in the Dell can play most modern games at less graphic settings and high resolution, as per Forbes.

On the battery front, Apple's MacBook Pro offers 10 hours of battery life whereas the XPS 15 barely reaches beyond five to six hours in most work situations. This certainly is one of its biggest failings.

In the case of pricing, the MacBook Pro 15 starts at $2,400 and goes up to about $4,300. The XPS 15 on the other hand, starts at $1000 and tops out around $2,600. There's just nothing more to say, the XPS 15 wins the affordability round by a huge number. Therefore, Dell once again seems better value with its huge 32GB of RAM.For most people, it's the best laptop available in the market.
