The fact that "Super Mario Run" boasts a player base 10 times larger, "Fire Emblem Heroes" continues to outperform Mario's mobile title. Nintendo told press during their financial earnings claiming that "Super Mario Run" sales continue to go down or slow.
According to Game Rant, between the U.S and Japan, Nintendo gained more than $17.9 billion from its smartphone games. However, "Super Mario Run" which has been reached its peak at almost 150 million downloads, continues to struggle with converting free users into paying ones.
As Takashi Mochizuki said, Nintendo claimed a goal of more than 10 percent of total download pay; "Super Mario Run" hasn't reached it yet. The company has released its statement regarding with their difficulties in getting smartphone owners to pony-up the one-time fee of $10 for "Super Mario Run." As of now, Nintendo extends the free trial period, tweaked key gameplay elements to encourage attachments, and released a new content, but still, it seems that the game's outsized players base just can't translate into sales.
Nintendo Company President Tatsumi Kimishima claimed that "Super Mario Run" didn't meet his expectations. However, the company president said that the company will continue to try its hand at the premium mobile games business model.
Meanwhile, the free-to-play "Fire Emblem Heroes" is now performing well. It's now ranking in the top 10 highest grossing titles list on the iOS App Store which Nintendo continues to provide substantial content updates.
According to Android Authority, there's an easy explanation why "Fire Emblem Heroes" gained more revenue than "Super Mario Run," despite attracting one-tenth of its users. "Fire Emblem Heroes" has micro transactions, a much more common market strategy, and common pricing scheme.
"Fire Emblem Heroes" also appears to be a superior game to "Super Mario Run." Stay tuned for more updates and review between the two mobile games.
