Latest updates state that Seagate has developed a hard drive with a microSD slot for DJI drones. According to reports, Seagate recently announced a new hard disk drive that has been specially designed for DJI drone users.
It is reported that the new hard drive named DJI Fly Drive is an external drive that enables drone users to backup files as soon as they are taken on location. The DJI Fly Drive is the first product of the collaboration between DJI and Seagate to develop drone-focused storage solutions that the parties announced at CES in January.
According to The Verge, the Fly Drive has up to 2TB of storage, which is said to be sufficient for 60 hours or more of 4K video footage at 30fps. It also features a built-in microSD card slot for instant transfer and an integrated USB-C cable.
However, drone users can easily transfer photos and video footage that are stored on the Fly Drive to their Windows PC or Mac devices with USB 3.1 or Thunderbolt 3. It is reported by Pocket Lint that the developer purposely incorporated the microSD slot so as to make it easy for drone users to transfer footage from the drone to the drive in the middle of tasks.
The report also states that that the microSD slot is for cards that are up to UHS-II speeds, to make it easier to transfer files from high-capacity cards. The DJI Fly Drive also features a built-in protective bumper for use when pilots are not close to the desk.
This also effectively protect the Fly Drive from bumps while out in the field filming or thrown around. It is reported that Seagate in collaboration with DJI has also stated that the new DJI Fly Drive will ship with a two-month subscription to Adobe Premiere Pro CC, which is intended to be a promo that will make it easier for drone users to edit their footage.
Although the DJI Fly Drive is specially designed for drone users, it is reported that the hard disk drive can also be used to backup data from a microSD card from either an action camera, a smartphone, or drones from other manufacturers. The United Kingdom price tag of the new DJI Fly Drive is yet to be confirmed by the developer, but the the 2TB model of drive will be available in the United States for $120 this summer.
