Neil Young has officially announced the launch of his top quality streaming service Xstream. This will be a more upgraded and revamped version of other sub-par streaming services available online.
Neil Young has been off the grid for quite some time now and his much revered Pono app's inability to keep up with the market saw him taking a step back. However, in recent news, the veteran musician has stormed the Pono Community message board revealing his new streaming service, Xstream.
7Digital has turned provider to Neil Young's venture and transformed it from storefront to streaming device. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Young suggested that he had to face a backlash from many of his customers after a hike in premium pricing. The entry of free music file devices also hampered the growth of Pono and Omnifone's financial plunge was a sucker punch.
In a more detailed review by Slash gear, it looks like Xstream will provide streaming at different qualities depending on the available bandwidth. This will, in turn, make the app more flexible and users with fluctuating or slower networks will be able to enjoy the music too. Faster the network better will be the quality; this will not only breathe new life into Pono but give other streaming services a real-time headache.
Xstream will be based on consumer satisfaction rather than manufacturer's gain. It will not mark any premium pricing as per The Verge, which was Pono's biggest mistake cites Neil Young. He opened up regarding Pono's slump and how Xstream will look to make amends.
Neil Young chose to remain silent about the release date and intensified the curiousness by saying anytime soon. Young insisted that details will be provided as per schedule and users can pin their hopes on Xstream.
It will not be an easy task as Apple, Tidal, and other giants have already grasped the market. Neil Young's perseverance shows that Xstream is up for it and will engage in a fierce battle with aforementioned stream providers.
