The recent video posted by HTC about their next release, till now known as HTC Ocean, induced the curiosity of many. The company has now officially branded this flagship model as the HTC U 11, set to launch on 16 May 2017.
This Smartphone was first seen in the save-the-dates sent out by HTC. The video posted by the company showed the handset to have features that would let the user interact with the phone by squeezing its frame. Latest reports via Venture Beat by famous gadget leaker, Evan Blass, say that the official name for this phone is HTC U 11.
HTC U 11 will join the U series that currently consists of the HTC U Ultra and HTC U-Play, both of which debuted this January. Blass goes on to say that the HTC U 11, though a part of HTC's U range, will be the successor to the HTC 10, launched last year.
The report also states that HTC U 11 will be available in five different colors- black, white, blue, silver and red. However, the availability of the colors would vary according to the market.
The most intriguing feature of HTC's new release is the "Edge Sense". This feature uses the sensors embedded in the device's frame. Users will be able to trigger various actions by swiping or squeezing the sides of the handset.
As mentioned in 9to5 Google, the HTC U 11 will be a 5.5-inch handset, with 2560x1440 pixel display, housing a 4 GB or 6 GB RAM with a Snapdragon 835 processor. It would have a 12 MP primary camera and a 16 MP secondary snapper. Other features include a 3000 mAh battery, 64 GB or 128 GB internal memory, depending on the variant and Android Nougat 7.1 OS. The device will sport IP57 dust/water resistance and no 3.5mm headphone jack.
The HTC U Ultra failed to shine as a premium Smartphone against the releases by Apple and Samsung. The HTC U 11 is an important release for HTC. The new Sense Edge innovation could bring HTC back in the game.
