‘Grand Theft Auto 5’ Mod Latest Update: ‘Red Dead Redemption V’ Add-On Has Been Set Aside For Now

Apr 25, 2017 12:48 AM EDT

“Grand Theft Auto 5” players who were eager to see what the big fuss was over the “Red Dead Redemption” mod was will have to wait another day but with no certainty. Apparently Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive were not too thrilled about the planed mode and the people behind the ambitious plans have shelved the western-inspired mod – for now.

According to one of the modders who goes by the handle Mr. Leisurewear via the GTA Forums, he and the .White team were contacted when a trailer of the planned “Red Dead Redemption V” came out in the open. The trailer has since been taken down but it is obvious that it was something that drew plenty of attention.

While that would be a disappointed for “Grand Theft Auto 5” players, it may be best to dig in to what was really planned. It turns out that the “Red Dead Redemption” mod was not really a full port as most may have been expecting. Rather, it was merely a map and such brought up some legal issues on the botched plan, Kotaku reported.

There is a chance that Mr. Leisurewear and the .White Team could try again but it may take more time. Hearing that it was merely a map and not an actual port could push them to come up with something better. The best time to do so is perhaps once “Grand Theft Auto 6” is out in the open, diverting the attention away from the current installment of the GTA series.

Players looking for a different kind of “Grand Theft Auto 5” playing experience are now left with no recourse but to wait for the official add-ons from Rockstar Games. The “Tiny Racer” update may not be much, a retroactive punt to the game as it was during the early years of “Grand Theft Auto.” The patch is expected to be available on April 25.
