While waiting for the new episodes of “Rick and Morty” in summer after the recent surprise Season 3 premiere of the animated series, fans could check the new virtual reality game. “Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality” is available on HTC Vive and Oculus + Touch. The new VR game allows players to enter the wild world of the Adult Swim animated series.
Slashfilm reports that those who would play “Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality” would have a Morty clone as point-of-view. Morty would help Rick with different experiments such as solving puzzles and completing tasks. All the tasks would be performed while following directions from Rick who is perpetually drunk.
Initially, the tasks are simple ones such as doing the laundry and fixing the spaceship. However, the tasks in “Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality” would become more complex such as exploring the environment and shooting the gallery occasionally. For the VR game, it takes the premise of “Job Simulator,” a popular VR game, combined with the Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland-created animated series, “Adult Swim.”
Junkee notes that early reviews of “Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality” are positive. It cites Gizmodo which described the VR game as “one of the best VR experiences you can play.” The Independent reports that the legit voices, plot points, and dialogue are indicators that the creators of the VR game did a good job of making it feel like a part of the “Rick and Morty” universe and not a third-party game with a “Rick and Morty” skin thrown on. It added the VR game makes total sense and is seamless.
However, “Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality” does have a downside. It notes that while the portal gun provides a few more areas to explore, players crave to move out of the garage. It may be a bit short for its $28 price tag, but the VR game had different challenges wired in to improve its replayability.
