‘Friday The 13th Game’ Launches On May 26 With Multiplayer Mode Only, But Single-Player Campaign To Add As Free Update On Summer

Gun Media and Illfonic announced on Friday the release date for “Friday the 13th” game. The game will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 26. The digital multiplayer game costs $40. However, the single-player mode would eventually be available as a free update on summer.

GameSpot reports that in “Friday the 13th,” seven camp counselors would attempt to survive against one person playing Jason Voorhees, the masked killer. The game has three maps of Camp Crystal Lake, Higgins Haven, and Packanack Lodge. Jason’s locations and brutal executions are shown in the new trailer released on Friday, April 21.

“Friday the 13th” was initially slated for release in fall 2016, but the launch date was delayed and moved to early 2017. The developers delayed the brutal and gory hide-and-seek game based on horror movie franchise to add fan-requested features such as the single-player missions, Polygon reports. Besides the addition of features, different ratings boards also took a little longer to approve the game than anticipated.

When IllFonic patches the single-player mode of “Friday the 13th,” that part of the game could be played offline. Only the multiplayer digital version of the game would roll out on May 26. A retail release costing $59.99 would also be released by the game developers which raised more than $820,000 after it was announced as a Kickstarter project in autumn 2015.

GameRant notes that “Friday The 13th” may appear like light on content on its May 26 launch, but it would feature a distinctly 1980s slasher flick atmosphere that would be packed with a lot of references to the iconic horror movie. For some players, the devotion of the game to its source material may be sufficient for some fans who may willingly forgive the lack of a single-player mode at the launch.
