Unlike movies where remakes fail in comparison to the original, imitations and innovations in the tech industry usually trumps any original version. This seems to be the case with Microsoft Surface Pro 5 as new challengers, such as the Samsung Galaxy Book 12 and Lenovo MiiX 510 enter the fray.
According to Samsung Newsroom, the Samsung Galaxy Book 12 is already up for pre-order with shipment expected to begin on May 23, 2017. The Microsoft Surface Pro inspired 2-in-1 Galaxy Book 12 is equipped with a Windows 10 Pro, 7th Generation Intel Core, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage with an option for additional storage using microSD card. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is reportedly pegged for a spring launch with the good news that the battery issues that plagued its previous incarnations have been solved.
The Lenovo MiiX 510 is already out in the market and has been tagged as a suitable alternative for the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. According to PC Advisor, the Lenovo MiiX 510 been met with good reviews, most of them stating that the MiiX 510 is comparable to the Surface Pro in terms of performance, battery life, and features. Dubbed as the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 clone, the Lenovo MiiX 510 features a 6th Generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of storage.
While it is good to be closely compared with the originator, the question many still asks is this: will these 2-in-1 devices be better than the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5? The features of Samsung Galaxy Book 12 and the Lenovo MiiX 510 do not necessarily mean that these 2-in-1 devices are better than the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5. It only means that consumers waiting for the Surface Pro 5 have other alternatives.
If information concerning the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 doesn't come out soon, consumers, even the most loyal Microsoft users, may discover that they have other alternatives than the Surface Pro. While a lot of tech pundits are expecting an even better Microsoft Surface Pro 5, other 2-in-1 devices such as the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy Book 12 and Lenovo MiiX 510 are already looking like solid alternatives and are just waiting in the wings to take over.
And they aren't the only devices out on the market that can challenge the flagship hardware of Microsoft. Others such as Apple's iPad Pro and Dell's XPS 13 can also give the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 a run for its money. And it's just the beginning.
After all, most of these Surface Pro-inspired devices already have the best 2-in-1 concepts that Microsoft has to offer. And if Microsoft further delays its Microsoft Surface Pro 5 launch, it will only be a matter of time before any tech industry heavyweight gains the upper hand.
