The well-known messaging and chat service platform is on its way to further innovation as recent updates have been reported to be made for its Android version. The Change Number and Live Location features are said to be included in the WhatsApp beta version 2.17.130. It is currently available for Windows Phone and Windows 10 smartphone users. How can these new additions be useful for future WhatsApp updates? Let us find out how.

According to reports from Android Authority, the "Change Number" and "Live Location" are the latest features that will come to Android users. Based on its reliable tracking source on Twitter, with user account @WABetainfo, it can let you change your number without losing previous data. Once users have changed their number, their WhatsApp contacts will be accordingly notified. Hence, there is no need re-register or sign in to another new account. In addition to this, the messaging app's twitter account also disclosed that the Live Location sharing features are likewise mentioned in the current version 2.17.150 WhatsApp beta for non-iOS users. However, both of these features need to be turned on in the phone's settings in order to be activated as they are disabled by default.

A further report from BGR states that the 'Live Location' feature is anticipated to share users' real-time coordinates. Even with the limited information on the messaging app's update as of the moment, it is deemed similar to the sharing feature introduced in Google Maps. Currently, WhatsApp users can share their locations with contacts. This update is important as it can give handy and real-time location information not only to the users' contacts, but also useful to themselves should they opt to track or visit a friend for the first time. It can also serve as a guide map in reaching the intended destination. Nonetheless, the messaging app normally tests new features first before they are official included to the stable versions of the app, so the tendency to see or not see these latest features, in the long run, will depend on the developers' and users' feedbacks, as well.
