Early this month, Microsoft announced they will partner with Samsung to create a new smartphone called Galaxy S8 Microsoft Edition. The new model is said to run on Android operating software, just like a regular Galaxy S8, but comes with special feature only found in the Microsoft edition. Upon its release, the new smartphone will only be available in Microsoft stores.

According to Tech Republic, the new Samsung Galaxy S8 Microsoft edition will also feature an Office 365, Cortana, and of course OneDrive. The smartphone is expected to be equipped with unique features but Microsoft has yet to reveal its complete details. Although Microsoft is now focused on providing cloud services, working with Samsung doesn’t really change their focus. This partnership is actually a good opportunity for the company to gain more exposure from Samsung users.

Before their collaboration, Microsoft used to be the dominant manufacturer of mobile phones according to Business Insider. Through the years, Android and Apple overtook the industry while Microsoft failed to keep their market. Under the leadership of Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s former CEO, the company took extraordinary resources to try and get back what they lost. However, the company failed in every strategy which eventually led to implementing big changes in the company.

Now the new CEO Satya Nadella has stepped up and made drastic changes in the company. One of it is a change in direction which is providing a cloud-based subscription to mobile devices. This means that the new Samsung Galaxy S8 Microsoft Edition will provide services not found on any other Samsung device. This includes a first-hand experience of their cloud-based services.

Several years ago, Microsoft has been doing everything they can to introduce Windows 10 to their market but was unsuccessful. But with their Galaxy S8 Microsoft Edition strategy today, it will give them a chance to reach more audience and showcase what they can really offer to mobile users.
