Avoiding to run into any bad luck, the China-based company OnePlus reportedly decided to skip using OnePlus 4 for their next smartphone release. Chinese culture links the number "four" with death. Thus, reports claim that its new flagship phone will carry the name OnePlus 5.
Tech Portal reports that the OnePlus is now gearing up to release its newest flagship smartphone — OnePlus 5. Previously, OnePlus handsets carried codenames such as A0001, A2000 and A3000 which were the OnePlus, OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3 respectively. Furthermore, the newest codename of the handset is A5000 as documents from Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology states. And following the same guideline on naming its smartphone device and taking into consideration its permeating culture, it is safe to assume that it will be called OnePlus 5.
While many of Chinese phone manufacturers announced their devices with the number "four" in their name, the company that owns OnePlus also handles the Vivo brand. Vivo also previously jumped directly from the Vivo V3 to Vivo V5. The simplest explanation for the Chinese smartphone maker is speculated to be the notion of the unlucky number. The number "four" in the Chinese world, has a similar sound to the word for "death". Thus , the culture attributes the number four as being bad luck.
Android Authority shares that the OnePlus 5 have a 5.5-inch QHD display 2000 pixel resolution and dual-curved glass. The OnePlus 5 is also reported to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. Rumors also indicate that the OnePlus 5 will be the first smartphone with a massive 8GB RAM. This puts the OnePlus 5 one of the bigger variants among the devices as the standard model that usually includes 4GB or 6GB of RAM.
On the other hand, reports also reveal that the OnePlus 5 will be coming with a 23MP shooter and a rear fingerprint sensor. The OnePlus 5 will have a 3000mAh battery capacity. The highly-anticipated smartphone is rumored to be released by May or June of 2017.
