Intel reportedly would advance the launch of the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors. The roll out would be at Computex which would be held from May 30 through June 3 in Taipei. The previous plan of Intel was to introduce one or both processors at Gamescon which is from Aug. 22 through 26.
Basin Falls Platform
The source of the new launch date for the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors is a Chinese-language report at BenchLife, according to Hot Hardware. The two processors are part of the new X299 platform of Intel, also called Basin Falls.
Skylake-X has a lineup of 10-core, 8-core, and 6-core processors. All three have a 140W TDP. The Kaby Lake-X processor’s lineup is only 4-core SKUs with a 112W TDP. All the SoC include Hyper-Threading support and sold as Core i7-7000 series processors.
The launch of the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors by Intel is expected to improve the performance and capabilities of desktop PCs that would use the two upcoming chips, Digital Trends reports. Both processors would support the GA 20166 socket and the X299 chipset. It would include up to 10 ports of USB 3.0 and eight SATA Gen3. The new X-series processors would also support DMI 3.0 x 4.
BenchLife’s Solid Track Record
Techspot notes that when it comes to hardware rumors, BenchLife has a solid track record. However, because Intel has not officially confirmed the release dates for the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X chipsets, techies are advised to take these reports for now with a grain of salt and wait for official confirmation from the manufacturer.
The new breed of the processor, Kaby Lake-X, would be based on the 14 nm manufacturing process, or the Kaby Lake-G Series. It would be part of the 7th Generation Core family of Intel that features a new hybrid design scheme.
