Microsoft had announced Xbox Project Scorpio last year at E3 2016, teasing it as "the most powerful console ever built." Last week, the tech giant has revealed Scorpio's tech specs and, in just recent, it has pulled back the curtain on the Project Scorpio dev kit.
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced on the official Xbox website that Microsoft will reveal Xbox Project Scorpio in its entirety at E3 this year. Spencer wrote, "With Project Scorpio, we created a console with the goal of being the ultimate place for developers to realize their visions and the best place to play any Xbox game...We're excited to unveil Project Scorpio and the amazing game experiences it powers at E3 this June."
According to IGN, Xbox Project Scorpio's CPU is 30 percent faster than the one powering the current Xbox One and is boasting a GPU that is 4.6 times more powerful. Thanks to faster hard drive speeds and RAM, the Xbox Project Scorpio will be more than capable of displaying games in 4K.
According to Game Spot, Xbox Project Scorpio will be equipped with an eight-core CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz, a GPU capable of six teraflops, and 12 GB of GDDR5 system memory with 326 GB/s bandwidth. It's also expected to be 43% faster than the PlayStation 4 Pro, and 4.5 times faster than Microsoft Xbox One.
Xbox Project Scorpio was seen running the Forzatech engine that used in Forza Motorsport 6 and Forza Horizon 3. The demo was running native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (FPS) while only using 70% of its GPU power.
Among the details missing so far are the Xbox Project Scorpio's final design, and price tag. We could also see more games running on the hardware at the expo.
E3 2017 will have the full reveal for Xbox Project Scorpio, rather than a separate event ahead of the expo that was previously hinted at by Phil Spencer. Microsoft has also sent out invites to its press briefing, which will begin at 2:00 PM PT / 5:00 PM ET on Sunday, June 11th.
