Latest updates reveal that Apple has posted job openings in the United Kingdom with regards to its homegrown GPU development. According to reports, the developer recently posts job vacancies in U.K. related to the development of its own GPU.

If fans can recall, the developer announced earlier this month that it would no longer need to license technology from the popular graphics chip producer, Imagination Technologies. Even Though Apple's products have utilized a GPU chip created by Imagination Technologies since the OG unit was launched in 2007, it is apparent that the tech giant now wants to start creating its own graphics chip.

However, according to Phone Arena, the devices that will use the home-grown GPU chips might not be available for purchase anytime soon, as the GPU is not expected to be ready until 15 to 24 months from now. Meanwhile, it appears that Apple is currently looking for the perfect team to design and develop the upcoming GPU chip, as the recent job openings, which were posted on the United Kingdom version of Apple's jobs board, listed 12 Hardware Engineering job.

It is reported by Apple Insider that the listings posted on March 29 are for Apple's U.K. Design Centre and 11 of the 12 openings are related to GPU design. The report also stated that the listing for an Engineering Program Manager has a reference to a newly formed graphics design team that are willing to work on the "definition of the architecture, spec, design, and verification of graphics IP from concept through to silicon."

Additionally, another listing for a Design Verification Lead in respect of RTL verification of blocks in graphics cores seeks a person with a "deep understanding of the micro-architectural details of designs, and how they work within the broader GPU." Although the tech company has not revealed the reason behind its sudden decision to produce its own GPU, it is believed that Apple wants to exercise control over the graphics processor on its devices just like it exerts on the A-series central processor.

However, it is reported that Apple's recent decision did not seem to go down well with Imagination Technologies, as Imagination has threatened a lawsuit against Apple. The tech company believes that there is no way Apple can design its own GPU without infringing on its patents. Apple also posted job openings for a Design Verification Engineer, an Emulation Engineer who needs to have an understanding of "CPU and/or GPU architecture and micro-architecture and a Graphics Content Engineer.
