‘Pokemon GO” Could Launch An Easter Event To Stem Loss Of Players Now Down To 5 Million Gamers

Apr 11, 2017 09:28 AM EDT

Although Niantic Labs has not made any announcement of an Easter event for “Pokemon GO,” gamers are expecting one. They believe it would have something to do with Easter egg hunting. Among their guesses are that it would be easier to acquire 10 km eggs on April 16 or rare Pokemon would hatch from any egg.

Dwindling Number Of Players

Express reports that Niantic Labs could launch the Easter event this week amid the news that since “Pokemon Go” was launched in mid-2016, millions had left the game. New data say that from a peak of 28.5 million players, the number is down to only 5 million. It indicates around 80 percent stopped playing the game.

However, the number of 5 million was at the end of 2016. Following the recent launch of the Water Festival event and the release of Gen 2 Pokemon, the number of “Pokemon GO” players could have gone up, but not back to the peak of 28.5 million players. Among the speculations are the Niantic could launch new mechanics for the game.

Redeemable Codes

However, “Pokemon GO” dataminers say they discovered evidence of new Redeemable Codes to reward new items, Avatar accessories, Candy, Stardust, and PokeCoins. Other possibilities include a free promotion for gamers to earn extra Pokeballs. The Redeemable Codes, according to the dataminers, are ready for deployment and could be redeemed through the in-game shop.

It is a tradition of Niantic Labs to have a special event for holidays. The only exception was St. Patrick’s Day in October. But the game developer launched “Pokemon GO” special events for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Day, Halloween, and Water Day, Heavy points out. But the website notes that Niantic Labs have different time frames for these events, with some launching six days before a holiday, while some launched just two days before a holiday.
