Samsung has just recently launched much-awaited flagship smartphones, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Now it's hardly been a month since then and the company has apparently seen started work their next Galaxy S9.
As per a new report coming directly out of Samsung's home country, work on Galaxy S9 began sometime in late March that we believe that it should be post-Galaxy S8 launch. The South Korean report further adds that Samsung has already deployed a team to work on the display panels for Galaxy S9 with aims to supply samples starting mid-April.
The report is coming from the South Korean publication The Bell. Citing unnamed industry sources, the report claims that a Samsung team has been working on the display panels for the Galaxy S9 since late March. The report attributes this to the more rigid quality control process that was implemented after last year's Note 7 disaster. The report reads that, "about a month after the display, other key parts such as modules are expected to be developed in phases."
However, at this point, it is very early to speculate on what specs and features will the new flagships boasts. Although the news publication mentions that we're likely to see two variants with 5.8- and 6.2-inch display panels - screen diagonals which are identical to this year's S8 models, as per The Investor.
Notably, with work begun on Galaxy S9, Samsung is 6 months ahead of schedule as compared to last year. The reason behind this quick pace is the strengthened quality control process deployed by the OEM after last year's Note 7 fiasco, as per Android Soul.
According to Deccan Chronicle, it looks like Samsung is getting itself well-prepared for next year's launch of Galaxy S9 already. Samsung typically launches its primary, high-end smartphones at MWC events that take place in February.
According to Phone Arena, a few interesting rumors about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 8 have also been noted in the report. The upcoming Note is expected to come with the largest screen we've seen on a premium Samsung phone. Apparently, the phablet display measure at 6.32 inches, and it is also rumored that there will be a fingerprint scanner embedded under the front glass, which is something that Sammie failed to implement in time for the Galaxy S8.
