The popularity of the first-gen wireless Apple AirPods has encouraged the company to bring forth its second variant in the wearable earphone series. The idea of adding the next-generation Apple AirPods with new features may give the tech a boost among fans worldwide. Reports suggest that the case of the upcoming wearable tech may feature wireless charging with waterproofing properties.

According to a patent application by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the next-gen Apple AirPods are expected to offer wireless charging and water resistance in the case. The patent further noted that the wireless charging feature will enable any Apple device capable of supporting wireless sensors to charge with the help of the case, Patently Apple reported.

Next-gen Apple AirPods Expected Features

As far as the water resistant feature of the case is concerned, the next-gen Apple AirPods' case consists of a waterproof circuit layout that will be "impervious to liquid penetration." Phone Arena noted that the AirPods may also be certified with a certain degree of water and dust resistance with the case.

Implementation of the next-gen Apple AirPods' case as a wireless power bank is an interesting feature that will let users get extra battery backup wherever they go. Apple noted that the devices that may be charged using the upcoming case include Apple Watch, iPhones, iPads and anything which uses wireless sensors.

Rumors suggest that the upcoming Apple iPhone 8, which is expected to offer wireless charging, may come with the next-gen Apple AirPods that accompany the new wireless charging case. Please note that the patent application is not an official patent implemented by the company for now. However, if it is used, then it is certainly going to be a ground-breaking feature in the world of wireless portable charging for Apple.
