Windows smartphone owners can’t wait to see what the Windows 10 Creator update has to offer. It is expected to start rolling out on April 25 but the latest word is that not all devices may get the update.
According to Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet, only a select few of mobile phones will be privileged to get the Windows 10 Creator update. Among the phones which can expect the patch include devices such as the Alcatel IDOL 4S, Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL, HP Elite X3, Lenovo Softbank 503LV, MCJ Madosma Q60i, Microsoft Lumia 550, Microsoft Lumia 640/640XL, Microsoft Lumia 650, Microsoft Lumia 950/950XL, Trinity NuAns Neo, and VAIO VPB051.
Microsoft was approached to find out if there is any truth to the limitation of the Windows 10 Creator update rolled out. The Redmond company confirmed that not all phones would be getting the update but did not reveal which phones were affected. Hence, the list previously mentioned is not accurate for now.
The main reason pointed out by Microsoft is the hardware of the phones. Apparently, the Windows 10 Creator update lacks support for certain drivers and/or may be out of the Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) support period.
This development is bad news for Windows phone owners who were hoping to see the big changes that the Windows 10 Creator update would have to offer. There are some who may opt to find alternative ways by forcing the issue, something Microsoft warns could lead to dire consequence.
Apparently, the initial release of Windows 10 Creator update will be to find flaws which users may encounter upon implementation. This means that bugs will be expected. Adding that up with incompatibility due to hardware and other issues, the risk of seeing unlisted Windows phones ending up in bricked states is high. The initial stage will be in play for four months before a stable release can be finally rolled out, InfoWorld reported.
