AirPods Latest News & Update: Patent Points To Waterproof, Unique Charging Capabilities

The casing of phones and peripherals may not matter much but for those who think outside the box, they could serve more than protection and storage. Apple’s AirPod does need safe keeping but a spotted patent has just brought in multiple possibilities.

Like most earphones or casings, the alleged patent points to a possible waterproof case that should make sense. With consumers using devices outdoors and tagging along with their devices anywhere, addressing a common water issue related to the iPhone and the AirPod makes a lot of sense.

AirPod casings as handy chargers

But while the makers are at it, why not expand to make the AirPod case more useful. Power storage is an important aspect for most these days, a reason why power banks and chargers are a must. With the AirPod casing, why not give it some charging capabilities that should put it to good use?

To make it possible, the casing of the AirPods could accommodate inductive pads that may account for wireless charging. Details are a bit broad but the idea of it all should be interesting if Apple does turn the casing into something more than plain storage.

More than just overlooked storage

If this patent gets any attention, some folks would laud and give the casing of AirPods more value. It would eventually become a charging station for the peripheral or even the Apple device itself (i.e. iPhone, iPad or MacBook).

While that should be something to ponder on, the next question is how much power this AirPod casing can hold. A look at the illustration shows a box square-like case with rounded corners, 9 to 5 Mac reported. Considering it may be small storage, it could be a temporary recharging alternative.

Apple could look into adding some solar panels to allow the AirPod case to recharge when it runs out of juice. It may not be much but at least it makes sure that Apple device owners can have something handy when they deal with low battery devices.
