Apple iPhone 8 Latest News: Redesigned Flagship Will Not Be Ridiculously Priced As Most Anticipate

Apr 08, 2017 03:27 AM EDT

Big changes are ahead for iPhone folks with the Apple iPhone 8. The most notable change to expect is the shift to OLED display technology which could somehow justify its skyrocketing price range. The initial word is that it may cost over $1,000 but an analyst begs to differ.

Apple iPhone 8 will not be overpriced - UBS Analyst

UBS analyst Steve Milunovich downplays earlier projections that the Cupertino company will price the Apple iPhone 8 beyond bounds, Apple Insider reported. Supply of OLED screen displays is scored as one of the reasons why Apple may jack up prices, tying that up with the familiar law of demand and supply which should control consumer purchasing interest.

Pricing is a concern and it remains to be seen if the take of Milunovich holds up. The Apple iPhone 8 is expected to get a long-overdue redesign but overpricing it may severely affect interest when it comes to getting a blue chip smartphone.

Justifying a price hike

Rival Samsung has its share of new devices, priced reasonably while coming with high-end features. Some would contend that it is a move to make amends for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 debacle. But going beyond Samsung, other brands like LG, Huawei and Oppo are commanding prices fairly same with the only market share as their prerogative.

The Apple iPhone 8 is expected to feature a bezel-less display with some buttons and features relocated. Leading the pack is the fingerprint sensor that will allegedly be moved to the rear of the device. More powerful processors, RAM, wireless charging and an improved dual camera join the list of specs to watch out for, Forbes reported. Would it be worth the buy?

The Apple iPhone 8 will be the cream of the crop when Apple finally unveils its new smartphones for 2017. It will be flanked by the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, both still toting the traditional TFT-LCD displays. It is seen as the transition stage for the Cupertino company as it assesses how the market accepts the shift to the new iPhone design, pricing fluctuation included.
