Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Has Just Got First Rumored Details; Hybrid Might Not Feature Major Updates

Latest and new rumored details about the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, which is the alleged successor of the Surface Pro 4, emerged in a tweet. The very first rumored details are coming from Paul Thurrott of Thurrot.com, citing a source who has apparently seen the device.

Paul Thurrott in his tweet has revealed that the Surface Pro 5 successor will not change the proprietary Surface power connector and that Microsoft's next hybrid will switch to Intel's latest Kaby Lake processors. Paul has also claimed there's "nothing dramatic" about the Surface Pro 5, which might mean the upcoming Surface Pro 5 will be simply a refreshed design with upgraded components.

Allegedly, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will keep Microsoft's proprietary Surface Connect power connector. The said connector uses a magnet to snap into the Surface's power port, according to Business Insider.

With the latest Surface Pro 5 retaining the Surface power connector to it doesn't mean that Microsoft won't opt to switch its DisplayPort on the forthcoming Surface Pro 5 to a USB-C connection. Microsoft has previously committed to ensuring that Surface Pro 3 power adapters, docking stations, and Type Covers would be compatible with the Surface Pro 4, so it's really not surprising to know that the company is likely keeping its Surface power connector, as reported by The Verge.

Keeping this all in mind, however, Lack of USB-C would be a surprising omission given that the majority of Windows PC makers are moving to the latest port on high-end laptops. USB-C ports can be used for charging, as well as connecting several devices, like external hard drives, and even connect to monitors- with a single connection using a USB-C dock.

According to Mashable, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will use Intel's latest seventh-generation of the processor, which is "Kaby Lake." However, Intel's Kaby Lake processors offer only a minor performance improvement over the 6th-generation Skylake processors in the Surface Pro 4.

Overall, it seems that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be a minor upgrade over its predecessor Surface Pro 4. However, these all are rumors right now so latest details shouldn't be taken as fact. We'll only know the exact details when Microsoft announces its new Surface products.
