HTC U Ocean: Smartphone's Specs and Features Leaked

Apr 06, 2017 08:46 AM EDT

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC is reportedly unveiling a new smartphone called the 'HTC U' or the 'HTC Ocean' as per recent rumors that surfaced online the previous week. HTC's last popular smartphone was the HTC 10, supposedly their previous flagship device. The new smartphone will be running the latest Android operating system on top of their 'Edge Sense' UI.

Reports from the Android Authority suggest the new HTC Ocean smartphone will be having a display of 5.5-inches with a display resolution of QHD secured by a scratch-proof Gorilla Glass 5 panel. A possible new feature on the upcoming smartphone comes with numerous gestures that are reportedly placed on the sides of the device which can be accessed by squeezing the edges of the device.

Details from GSMArena highlighted the working procedure of this new feature on the HTC Ocean where the display is an all touch-sensitive frame that houses additional features. The report mentions that the gestures may be used per user's comforts to quickly launch options like turning the camera on, or navigating to the Google Assistant etc and will then be compatible with one-hand operations.

Regarding its specifications, the HTC Ocean according to the said reports is expected to sport the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset from Qualcomm with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. This indicates that the phone will be offered in two different choices. Hence, the likely storage capacities will be 64GB or 128GB at its peak. A 12MP rear camera will apparently come with a 16MP front-facing camera? That's a bit hard to believe.

However, the first downside that can be noticed is the HTC Ocean will be housing just a mere 3000mAh battery which for 2017's standards is very low. Reports indicate the phone will auto-enable HDR for taking pictures of the rear camera. With a USB Type-C connector for charging and data transfer, the phone is also equipped with four microphones that are currently offered in the HTC Ultra.
