'Overwatch' News: Of Cats In Jetpacks & Hockey-Clad Heroes, Director Jeff Kaplan Reveals All

"Overwatch", the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) by Blizzard, has a diverse array of heroes at the players' disposal. Each hero is unique in many ways, be it gameplay, design or back-story. It even has a talking gorilla!

Now, with Orisa as a new addition to the game, the "Overwatch" roster has become more colorful. However, before you realize the game's unusual aspects, the "Overwatch" team almost took it a step too far by making jetpack-donned cat hero. Unfortunately, for fans of our feline friends, the design did not get accepted into the roster, labeling it as "too far."

"There was this one hero that was a huge internal debate on the team because we just loved it so much but it didn't make it. It was this jetpack and it had this cat that laid in it like a cat does. Then every once in awhile it would paw at the controls. It was a cat in a jetpack," said "Overwatch" Director Jeff Kaplan, in an interview with GameSpot. When the interviewer encouraged him to bring the design back, he started having a hard time imagining cat paws a first-person shooter screen.

Jeff also revealed a hockey player from the concept stage of "Overwatch". They had once a literal hockey player and made it look like Lucio.

When asked about the hype from the fan base about the character Doomfist and his appearance in "Overwatch", Jeff confessed that it was not their doing. According to IGN, Jess Kaplan emphasized the community itself got excited over the character and "Overwatch" team will not go deeper into that as of the moment. He also stated that they want to avoid the issues that came up when people got too excited with Sombra.

As for more hero development updates for "Overwatch", Jeff stated that he wants the pace to be not faster than it currently is. He further points out that he wants each update to feel like a special event to make it more exciting.
