Android 7.1.2 Is Now Finally Rolling For Google Devices; Full Details Confirmed

Apr 04, 2017 10:39 AM EDT

Good news for all Google Pixel and Google Nexus users! In addition to Google's announcement of its new PAX cross-licensing accord and the unsurprising victory of Android over Windows on the web, owners of Pixel and Nexus devices are now getting the latest Android; Android 7.1.2 is finally rolling out for Google devices. Aside from that, Google has also released the Android security bulletin for April 2017.

According to Android Police, Android 7.1.2 is technically a minor update but depends on what device you have; marking it a pretty major update. For all Google Nexus 6P users, Android 7.1.2 means finally getting fingerprint sensor gestures. While Google Pixel C owners, on the o9ther hand will be getting the new Pixel launcher including a new multitasking/recent apps layout.

Google and Google Pixel XL users are also getting treats with the new Android 7.1.2. The most notable are that the company has finally fixed some of the biggest issues to greet these two by Google smartphones which include the pink band in the device's camera, random shutdowns, and the popping/static audio at high volumes.

According to Android Authority, Google has also posted the security bulletin for April 2017; still based on Android 7.1.1. As noted in the bulletin, the biggest bug fix revolved around, yet again, remote code execution when processing media files; seems like the ghost of Stagefright still haunts Android. Google previously splits the patch into two levels letting OEMs choose which level to apply; depending on schedule constraints. For Nexus and Pixel devices, the patches and updates are more uniform.

Unfortunately, Google Nexus 6 and Google Nexus 9 devices will still carry an Android 7.0; it seems that it will be the end of the line for these devices so users shouldn't expect any Android 7.1.2 version update. Meanwhile, April Security Patch is missing for the Pixel C and the Nexus Player, perhaps confirming that those were already included in their Android 7.1.2 updates.
